"38% answered very harmful and 38% said ...Hmm.
"38% answered very harmful and 38% said somewhat harmful, so harmful in some way was the answer given by 76% of the respondents."
"30% answered very worried and 42% answered somewhat worried, suggesting 72% would consider that worry was warranted."
I would think that, since my main interest in the question is, "Must we immediately begin taking expensive mitigation steps or can we afford to wait for better information" - well, from my point of view, Somewhat harmful and Somewhat worried = No. I would summarize: Most respondents were not all that concerned.MikeRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00127456522803816485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8216971263350849959.post-71425774209781056502012-03-09T17:50:31.466+01:002012-03-09T17:50:31.466+01:00Very interesting surveys!
Only the questions in y...Very interesting surveys!

Only the questions in your last paragraph sound a little outdated in the age of democracy and the Internet. There are no longer high commissariats which might decide "who is to be educated, what is it we want them to know " etc.

And I think there is no regulation in this world which will make a Latif, Grassl, von Storch, Schellnhuber or whoever present a specific and common version of climate change - the will always tell their own versions. No chance to change that, I guess -:)Werner Krausshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15094636819952421339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8216971263350849959.post-37900527109921840122012-03-09T16:05:18.787+01:002012-03-09T16:05:18.787+01:00An incompetent consensus cannot "educate"...An incompetent consensus cannot "educate" the public, it can only indoctrinate them with incompetent dogma--as it has done for over 20 years now.Harry Dale Huffmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03210275295826050501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8216971263350849959.post-40393717398551999742012-03-09T10:11:38.126+01:002012-03-09T10:11:38.126+01:00"Are climate scientists the appropriate link ..."Are climate scientists the appropriate link for front .line interaction with the public?"

NOAA means yes. There was a session at the AGU on this. Here are some hints how to convince even republicans and ultra-konservatives machos of the Science of climate change:

http://vimeo.com/33298236

1) Dont use words such as "reduction", "control", "desaster" instead use "entrepreneurship", "inovation" etc

2) Dont repeat climate "myths", dont even mention the name of your opponents.

3) Show masculin pictures. No sissyish kneeling down when putting solar panels on your roof but masculin climbing up a 50 meter windmill tower.

4) Keep it very simple.

5) Repeat as much as possible the message.

etc etc.Georg Hoffmannhttp://www.scienceblogs.de/primaklima/noreply@blogger.com
